When it comes to mischievous behavior, Chulsoo is second to none though he has the lowest academic record at school. The only two who greet him are his mother, who is completely engrossed in investing money on the cyber stock market, and a parrot, which repeatedly mimics the phrase, "Chulsoo, you fool." Chulsoo changes completely after Younghee transfers to his school. With both of her parents dead, Younghee, who lives with her grandmother who runs a flower shop, is grief-stricken but so excels in academics and conduct that her other male peers fall in love with her. Chulsoo gradually approaches her but she rarely opens her heart. Finally, Chulsoo prepares a gift for her, but that is just the beginning. It may have been the intent of director Hwang Gyudeok to give the two main characters such typical names - Chulsoo and Younghee - that you can hear everywhere in Korea and which even appear regularly in Korean elementary textbooks (i.e., the equivalent of "Dick and Jane"). This movie is like a children's tale written for adults. Nevertheless, all episodes in the movie are shown through the eyes of children.

Of course, there are no hard facts or statistics to prove this peculiar phenomenon, but some female viewers who enjoyed this film said it's true that more men are dragging their feet. Girls who are dealing with elusive boyfriends, however, may find it hard to accept what the movie presents as a conclusion: our bug-destroying Prince Charming holds the key - yes, the ultimate key to resolving the conflict, otherwise known as a "pretty personal choice" between the two girls...

One day, Ji-hwan begins to receive letters from an unidentified person. The letters, containing black-and-white photos of happy children playing, remind Ji-hwan of his old two friends.
Five years earlier, while Ji-hwan is taking pictures with his camera, two girls, Soo-in and Gyung-hee, walk into the frame. Ji-hwan falls in love with Soo-in at first sight. He then musters up enough courage to confess his love to her, but she refuses him very politely. Even so, Ji-hwan doesn't give up and tells them that he wants to be friends the next time they meet. Ever since then, the three of them start a wonderful friendship. They spend time each other always, and consider it the most precious moments of their lives. Based on a series of true stories posted by Ho-sik Kim on the Internet describing his relationship with his girlfriend. These were later transformed into a best-selling book and the movie follows the book closely.

As the film opens we are introduced to Kyun-woo, a kind-hearted but at times naive college student who seems to keep getting into trouble. On his way home one night he encounters a beautiful but completely smashed young woman who causes a scene in the subway, calls him "honey", and then passes out. With the eyes of the other subway passengers upon him, he has little choice but to take responsibility for her. Thus begins his relationship with the at-times charming, at-times violent damsel who steals his heart. Much of the film is structured around the bizarre antics of Kyun-woo's newfound girlfriend. After she passes out yet again, Kyun-woo looks at her blissful face and promises to himself that he will save her, and right whatever it is that troubles her. This proves to be much more of a challenge than he expects.

Not fully satisfied with classic superstitions like horoscopes and Oriental divination, Korean youngsters turned to a new breed of eccentric fortune-telling technique last year: personality analysis based on blood type. According to national surveys, a majority of young people believe that blood type determines a person's personality whether it has been scientifically proven or not. Though released belatedly (i.e., shortly after the craze abated in society), "My Boyfriend Is Type-B" targets those audiences who still believe in the magic of blood type. In this movie, a handsome Prince Charming-gentleman with blood type-B (notorious for individualistic, egotistic but creative tendencies) dates a woman with type-A (well known for being faint-hearted and timid) who blindly believes the myth of blood type and comes to have a desperate crush on him. As they continuously meet, she is deeply hurt by the self-centered, wayward antics of her boyfriend and is determined to part with him. He eventually regrets his behavior and turns his mind toward her again, but he then has to face a harsh reality (also based on the blood-type myth): a blood type-A girl seldom reverses her determination.

There hasn't been any other character in Korean films with more numerous jobs than Mr. Hong. Aside from his main job as the neighborhood representative, he has worked as a clerk at a convenient store and a video rental store. During the time when Yoon Hye-Jin(Uhm Jung-Hwa) was opening her dental clinic, he worked as her real estate broker as well as her interior decorator (who did a spectacular job, needless to say). He was also a package deliveryman as well as a newspaper delivery boy with the utmost punctuality. Moreover, on the side, he made paper dolls and brewed homemade wine. Even during the troubled time of mad cow disease, he enjoyed prosperity working at local butcher selling Korean cow meat. Besides being the Jack-of-all trade, he knows everything and knows how to do everything. Furthermore, during holiday season, he volunteered for the community service sharing his love with his neighbors.

Actress Olivia Hussey and Bruce Lee, a legendary martial arts actor and creator of Jeet Kune Do...They were perhaps two of the most brilliant movie stars who had captured the minds of high school boys during the late 1970s in Korean society. In "Maljukgeori Janhoksa," Hyeongsu (played by idol star Kwon Sang Woo) becomes a "karate kid" not to save Hussey look-alike Eunju (Ha Ga in) but for his dear friend (who becomes a rival lover after the appearance of "Hussey") Usik (Lee Jeongjin). Hyeongsu metamorphoses from an unsophisticated, exemplary student into a real fighter, seeking revenge for Usik's bully. Though full of nostalgia, this movie is more like an action movie than a naïve, old love story. Hyeonsu dazzles viewers first by showing off his basketball techniques and at last displaying his skills on the nunchakus and of kicking, moves he has just mastered. The stage is set at the notorious region of Maljukgeori in 1978, one year before the assassination of President Park Chung Hee. This appears to be director Yu Ha's intentions to avoid sensitive political involvement in the turbulent periods between 1978 and 1980. Writer-turned-movie director Yu succeeds in making an entertaining film both in terms of persuasive storytelling and visual aspects. For the middle-aged generation in Korea, the film serves as the recollection of those merciless and cruel periods when the violence of both bully students and grim-faced "militaristic" teachers were tacitly tolerated and permitted. In appearance, this film is not different from "Beat" and "Friends," in dealing with themes of violence. Even to the eyes of the younger movie fans, however, this movie is nothing new because, although more than a quarter century has passed, things have not changed significantly: the same archetypal characters who know how to play dirty tricks exist in the classroom.

This film focuses on the love affairs of the youth, with a heavy and exaggerated emphasis on their sex life. Humors derive mainly from the characters' bombastic and over-passionate attitude toward sex. Eun-shik (Im Chang-jung) is a college student who is always tricked by his friends. One day, he comes across a beautiful girl called Eun-hyo (Ha Ji-won) on campus. He falls in love with her at first sight, while her object of affection is another person... Every character in this film is sex addict. They can relate anything to sex. For instance, sperm is an important element that is used more than once. Other gags, like the embarrassing one night stand in the hotel and the scene when the female breaks into the house seeing the male is masturbating, are also very funny but nasty.

As the film progresses and the relationship between Eun-shik and Eun-hyo develops, the nonsensical humors are gradually replaced with a more intense drama. As a matter of fact, a love plot is almost a mandatory element in a sex comedy. The romantic affairs between Eun-shik and Eun-hyo is quite predictable, yet what surprises me is the abrupt transition near the end. Without spoiling the fun for the audience, I can only say that it is a very extreme shift of plot development from comedy to tragedy.

Not patriotism but a desperate attempt to save his brother pushes him from one heroic struggle to another until he loses touch with reality. The movie's depiction of war on a grand scale will likely jar viewers' senses as well. Produced with a record Korean film budget of 13 billion won, it vividly shows major battles like those on Dumillyeong Hill, the Nakdong River and the streets of Pyeongyang. Director Gang opened the realm of fantasy in Korean cinema with his debut "The Gingko Bed" (1996) and set box office records with "Swiri."

Behind this microcosm lies a great wall that severs her from the world. One of her past traumas stems from the sudden death of her mother, which she is often still haunted by. Another trauma is the memory of sexual violence inflicted upon her by her uncle when she was quite young. "It just hurt," is her simple answer on her wedding night when asked by her husband about her first experience. With that simple reply, she escapes a possibly unsatisfactory marriage. With these gloomy aspects still unsolved, she comes across an aspiring writer whom she invites for dinner. Nevertheless, she is afraid of being exposed to love or in other words, changing from her currently stable life. This passive love, though, appears to be stronger than any passionate love. "Jeong-Hye" is a common Korean name and signifies an anonymous, common and everyday person in our daily lives; that is, she is just a young girl whose type we can find everywhere.
